The Cytogenetics Laboratory at Shodair has been serving Montana and surrounding states for over 30 years. A nationally recognized, full service laboratory, the staff has a combined 100+ years of experience in Cytogenetics. Our Laboratory prides itself in doing exceptional quality of work, having turn around times better than the national average, and working intimately with providers to give the patient the best possible results. Cytogenetic analysis will detect a variety of chromosome-based disorders and can be conducted on specimens with viable cells. Chromosome studies are conducted for prenatal diagnosis and postnatal diagnosis. Source cells for cytogenetic studies include amniotic fluid, placental or fetal tissue, and blood.
Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) studies can be performed on all the above specimen types. This molecular cytogenetic technique involves the use of fluorescently labeled DNA probes specific to a region of a chromosome.
