For years, Zeesy’s frequent seizures were misdiagnosed as epilepsy, leaving her family searching for solutions. It wasn’t until she visited Shodair’s genetic specialists that she finally received the correct diagnosis: GLUT1 Deficiency, a rare disorder preventing her brain from processing glucose.
With this breakthrough, Zeesy’s family could begin life-changing treatment. Now, following a strict ketogenic diet, she thrives—proving that the right diagnosis can transform a child’s future.
Brooke’s Story: Overcoming Darkness with Hope
In sixth grade, Brooke’s mother noticed small signs that her daughter was struggling—minor scratches on her arm, quiet distress. By eighth grade, Brooke was experiencing suicidal ideation and had attempted to take her own life multiple times.
Feeling lost and in desperate need of help, Brooke’s mom turned to Shodair Children’s Hospital. The team at Shodair provided safety, therapy, and the unwavering support their family needed.
Today, Brooke is thriving as a college freshman and was honored as the 2024 Children’s Miracle Network National Child Champion. She shares her story to inspire others, proving that hope heals, and no one has to face their storms alone.
